The Edison Phonograph is a earliest commercial medium for recording and reproducing sound, it would later be replaced with the more modern record players in the years to come.

It was first invented in July 18, 1877 by Thomas Edison, and wasn't release commercially until 1896 (10 years after the event of the movie).

It was seen minorly in the first American Tail film when Fievel climbed to the gramophone thinking that he had found his family because the music is sounded closer to his song. But a Victoria played Stars and Stripes Forever (a song that wouldn't be written until 1896) which causes Fievel to falled out of the gramophone, and into the cylinder and freaked the woman out.
