Chief Wulisso is the father of Cholena and leader of the Lenape mice in An American Tail: The Treasure of Manhattan Island. He is cautious toward Europeans and outsiders in general, but he is peaceful, and acts only in the best interests of his tribe.

Appearance

Chief Wulisso is large and barrel-chested, much taller than most other mice and even Scuttlebutt, who is a rat. He wears a crown of feathers, a necklace, warpaint, pants, and is shirtless.

An American Tail: The Treasure of Manhattan Island

Chief Wulisso first appears when Fievel and his friends stumble upon the secret hideout of the Lenape mice. He is weary of them until Fievel offers them a peace offering of Matzo Ball soup. Enjoying it, he sets Fievel and his friends free, and begins organizing a welcoming ceremony for them. But while this is happening, Scuttlebutt is caught trying to steal from the tribe. Fievel and Tony are able to convince him that Scuttlebutt acted alone and that they didn't come there to steal, and he believes them. Later, he is even convinced to allow his daughter Cholena come to the surface and see if the Europeans have changed their ways. A few days later when they return, he finds out that Cholena is being hunted and that the police are coming to the Lenape hideout to exterminate them. Concerned that his people are threatened, Fievel helps them organize a (mostly) defense, and the police are driven off. Wulisso then gives Fievel, Tony and Tanya a bomb and instructs them to collapse the main tunnel. In the end he discovers not all Europeans are bad, but concludes that most are. It is implied when he and Cholena watch Fievel from a distance at the end of the film that there are more secret tunnels leading to the surface.
