The beetles are minor antagonists in the first movie. They chase Fievel through the sewers to eat him, but he loses them by going over a chasm. Many of the black beetles fell into the sewer lake and drowned, some were eaten by what appeared to be a piranha, or some other predatory aquatic animal.
They're appearance are more like stag beetles, but instead look Carrion or Tiger Beetle due to attempt to hunt Fievel.
Strangely they're photo-realistic, while in the same movie, Digit and T.R. Chula are both cartoony insects, also a scorpion (Bizarrely, mix with realistic and cartoon due to its eyes are snake-like eyes instead of arachnid eyes)
